Omg! When I first figured out I could make my own almond butter, my life changed. Nut butters can be so expensive. And if you are someone like me who makes a lot of no-bake “healthy” desserts, you are using a lot of nut butters. This almond butter is seriously SO easy to make. You do not need any oil or “special” ingredients to make this creamy and smooth butter. Just throw some almonds in a blender, follow a few tips, and there you go. A smooth, creamy almond butter for daily use.
Jump to RecipeDo I need a blender or a food processor?
When making any nut butter, it really depends on the powder of your machine. For me, I use my food processor when making my pistachio paste. But when I am making my almond butter, I use a blender. Why? Well, depending on the number of nuts you use and the surface level of your machine, it could take much longer. My food processor has a small bowl that I use for pistachio paste, but the large bowl is too big for 4 cups of nuts. I made peanut butter in the food processor, which took 3x as long compared to the blender. Essentially, it just depends. You know your kitchen equipment better than I do, so use what you think is best and go from there!
What should I use my almond butter for?
Oh boy, do I have some ideas! I feel like half my blog posts use almond butter in them. It is such a staple in my house! Below are some of my favorite recipe ideas to use this almond butter for!
- Honey nut cereal bites
- Honey puff bars
- Blueberry muffin bites
- Oatmeal chocolate chip protein bars
- Sweet potato toast
- Dip with some apples and cinnamon
- Serve with veggies
- Drizzle over oatmeal or yogurt bowls!
I have one more tip for ya… I like to buy my almonds (unsalted) at Sam’s Club or Costco. They are so much cheaper, come in bulk, and are perfect when using large amounts!
Homemade Almond Butter
Equipment
- 1 Food processor or blender
Ingredients
- 4 cups almonds
- ½-1 tsp salt optional!
Instructions
- Preheat oven to 350°F. Pour almonds on a baking sheet and roast for 10-12 minutes. Stir half way so they do not burn!
- Once almonds are roasted, let them cool for about 10 minutes before transferring them to the blender or food processor.
- Blend your nuts on high for about 5 minutes. Scrape the sides of your mixer every few minutes. At first, the nuts will resemble course almond flour. Then they will begin to become a thick paste. Do not stop here!
- At this point, you can add your salt if desired. I use ½ tsp for lightly salted almond butter, but feel free to omit or add more depending on your preference!
- We are looking for a creamy texture, and this only happens once the almonds have released their natural oils. After a few more minutes, you will be left with creamy, smooth almond butter!
- Pour the butter into a pint-sized mason jar! Store on the counter for up to 3-4 weeks!
