Jump to RecipeWhat do I need to make this puppy chow?
Well, I am so glad you asked! The ingredient list is very simple, but it has a holiday flare!
Ingredients:
- Rice Chex cereal
- Semisweet chocolate chips (I use Nestlé)
- White chocolate chips (I use Nestlé)
- Butter
- Peanut butter (creamy)
- Peppermint extract
- Vanilla extract (optional)
- Mint M & M’s
- Red and green M&M’s, crushed oreos, or crushed candy cane (additional topping of your choice!)
- Powdered sugar
Why is this puppy chow so good?
I know it might sound weird to have white chocolate and peppermint all in the normal peanut butter and chocolate puppy chow, but I’m telling you it changes the game. The white chocolate and peppermint give the puppy chow a Christmas flavor that normal puppy chow doesn’t encapsulate. The addition of the mint M & M’s are my favorite part;) I mean how could you go wrong with mint M&M’s?
This Christmas puppy chow is perfect for holiday gatherings or Christmas parties and will be a definite crowd-pleaser! It’s addicting and such a beloved spin on the classic!
However, if you can’t find mint M&M’s, I would recommend adding crushed candy cane or some other mint/peppermint candy. York patties would be delicious.

Christmas Puppy Chow
Ingredients
- 8 cups rice chex cereal
- ¾ cup semisweet chocolate chips milk or dark chocolate work great too!
- ¾ cup white chocolate chips
- 2 tbsp butter divided*
- ½ cup creamy peanut butter divided*
- ½ tsp peppermint extract
- ½ tsp vanilla extract optional
- ¾ cup mint M&M's
- ¾ cup red and green M&M's oreos are awesome here too!
- 1½ cup powdered sugar
Instructions
- In a microwave safe dish, melt the white chocolate with 1 tbsp of butter and ¼ cup peanut butter. Melt in intervals of 20 seconds until smooth. Add ¼ tsp peppermint extract, stir, and set aside. After adding the extracts, the mixture may get "thick," but that's okay!
- Next melt the semisweet chocolate chips in a microwave dish, along with the remaining 1 tbsp of butter and ¼ cup peanut butter. Melt in intervals of 20 seconds until smooth. Add ¼ tsp peppermint extract, stir, and set aside.
- Add both the melted chocolate mixtures into a large bowl with the rice chex cereal. Stir with a spoon until the cereal is fully coated in the melted chocolates.
- Finally add the M&M's and powdered sugar. Cover the bowl and shake until the powdered sugar is fully coating the puppy chow. If you do not have a big bowl with a cover, you can add the puppy chow to a gallon-sized plastic bag, seal, and shake to coat that way too.
