I love a good, juicy burger. Growing up, I only ever had beef burgers. However, one summer, at my friend’s cabin, we had turkey burgers that her dad grilled. The funny thing is, she is vegetarian! Anyways, they were the juiciest burger I had ever tasted. I knew I needed to re-create these at home. These turkey burgers are simple to throw together, made with healthy ingredients, and do not require a grill.
Jump to RecipeWhat do I need to make these burgers?
Well, ground turkey meat, in general, can be a little boring without some flavor-boosting ingredients to spice it up. Below is the ingredient list for the juiciest turkey burgers.
- Ground turkey (85-93% lean)
- Dijon mustard
- Mayonnaise
- Italian bread crumbs
- Onion powder
- Garlic powder
- Paprika powder
- Salt
- Black pepper
- Olive oil (for frying)
- Toppings! I use a whole-wheat bun, lettuce, tomato, bacon, and mayo! I also like to serve a side of my delicious oven-roasted vegetables with this meal.
Do I need a grill to make these burgers?
The most amazing part about this recipe is that you do NOT need a grill to whip these babies up. Oftentimes, I make these on a cast iron skillet. It provides that depth of flavor, similar to a grill, and can be prepared right on your stovetop. As shown below, the key to making these burgers crispy on the outside is using olive oil to fry them in. Without the oil, your burgers will not be browned or crispy.
After adding the oil, you will cook the burgers on medium heat for about 5 minutes on each side or until an internal temperature of at least 165 F has been reached. I typically cook 4 burgers at a time. During this stage, I like to keep the cooked burgers in the oven on the keep-warm setting while I finish off flipping the remaining burgers.
If you do not have a cast-iron skillet, use any large frying pan you have on hand! Also, depending if the pan is non-stick or not, will determine how much oil you will use. Oil is to get that crispy edge like you would from a grill! Check out the recipe below for more details.
Juicy Turkey Burgers
Ingredients
For the burgers:
- 3 pounds ground turkey meat 85%-93% lean
- 2 tbsp dijon mustard
- 2 tbsp mayonasie
- 2 tbsp Italian bread crumbs a heaping 2 tbsp!
- 1 tsp garlic powder
- 1 tsp onion powder
- 1 tsp paprika powder
- 1 tsp salt
- 1-2 tsp black pepper
To fry:
- 3 tbsp olive oil *an overflowing tbsp of oil in between each batch
Toppings: optional ideas!
- 12 whole-grain burger buns toast and butter for extra flavor!
- 1 head romaine lettuce
- 12 strips fully cooked bacon
- 1-2 roma tomatoes sliced
- mayonnaise
Instructions
- First, in a large mixing bowl combine the ground turkey, mustard, mayo, and seasonings. Incorporate with hands until fully ccombined
- On some tin foil (or a disposable surface) form 12 burger patties.
- Next, pour a tablespoon of olive oil into the pan (more if using cast iron) on medium heat.
- Add four burger patties at a time (depending on surface space). Each batch should take about 10 minutes in total. Flip every 2-3 minutes to cook evenly. Make sure the internal temperature reaches a minimum of 165Ā°F.
- Once the first batch is done, I recommend placing the cooked patties on a oven-safe plate. Place in the oven set to a "keep warm" (160-170Ā°F) setting.
- Between each burger batch (should be 3 batches total) add olive oil. When the last batch is done begin assembly!
- I like to toast my bun (most times in the toaster, but. you can also pan toast them too) then add mayo on the bottom. I place the turkey pattie on top and add my lettuce, tomato slices, and bacon. Serve and enjoy immediately!
