Ingredients

  • cup non-dairy milk I use a combo of oat milk (for creaminess) and unsweetened almond milk! Any milk will work though!
  • 2 tbsp unsweetened cocoa powder I like Hershey's Special Dark powder
  • 1-2 tbsp pure maple syrup I opt for 1-½ T, but it depends on the sweetness level of the milk I use!
  • ¼ tsp pure vanilla extract
  • tsp pure peppermint extract (adjust to taste!)
  • for the topping: whipped cream, candy canes, marshmallows optional!

Instructions

  • First, heat the milk on medium heat for about 1 minute.
  • Add the cocoa powder and maple syrup, whisking until full combined. Let the mixture become steamy, and once it's hot remove from heat.
  • Add the vanilla and peppermint extract and whisk until combined. We add the extracts after we take the mixture off the heat so their flavors don't evaporate!
  • Pour into your cozy mug and top with your favorite toppings! Enjoy!

Notes

*If you do not want a peppermint hot cocoa, or do not have peppermint extract simply omit and make a classic hot cocoa! Trust me, it's just as tasty;)
