Ingredients
1¼cupnon-dairy milkI use a combo of oat milk (for creaminess) and unsweetened almond milk! Any milk will work though!
2tbspunsweetened cocoa powderI like Hershey's Special Dark powder
1-2tbsppure maple syrupI opt for 1-½ T, but it depends on the sweetness level of the milk I use!
¼tsppure vanilla extract
⅛tsppure peppermint extract(adjust to taste!)
for the topping: whipped cream, candy canes, marshmallowsoptional!
Instructions
First, heat the milk on medium heat for about 1 minute.
Add the cocoa powder and maple syrup, whisking until full combined. Let the mixture become steamy, and once it's hot remove from heat.
Add the vanilla and peppermint extract and whisk until combined. We add the extracts after we take the mixture off the heat so their flavors don't evaporate!
Pour into your cozy mug and top with your favorite toppings! Enjoy!
Notes
*If you do not want a peppermint hot cocoa, or do not have peppermint extract simply omit and make a classic hot cocoa! Trust me, it's just as tasty;)
